"We are honoured that Worksafe BC has awarded us this year's award for health and safety innovation," says Dennis Thideman, president of Orion Information Systems Inc. "We are proud of TRAXms and the difference it is making for our clients in British Columbia. To be recognized by an outside organization for their creativity and hard work certainly means a lot to the men and women who work in our firm."

TRAXms was developed by Orion in 2008/2009 and assists companies in managing, maintaining and reporting safety and compliance details with ease, says Thideman.

"This technology has been successful because firms are able to customize it to the size and complexity of their operations," says Thideman. "We are helping firms to compile all their procedures and training into one location accessible anywhere via the internet, and we're reducing their costs by easing the burden of safety auditing."

Resource management firm TDB Consultants, based in Prince George, BC, has incorporated TRAXms into its workplace. "TRAXms helps us to meet the challenge of managing our safety needs and documentation," says Dick Mynen, Director of Strategic Development at TDB. "The system means our staff of more than 100 has access to our safety and HR programs, anytime, anywhere."

Orion CEO Dennis Thideman adds, "While TRAXms has been great for Orion, we're most proud of the difference it can make in the lives of workers. We are proud to develop software that can help save lives."

Orion was awarded Worksafe BC's health and safety innovation award at an event held in Prince George, BC on January 13. The award recognizes all types of safety innovations, including the management of workplace impairment issues, planning for safety at the design stage of projects, engineering controls that replace personal protective equipment. The award also recognizes innovative tools and other programs such as return to work or techniques that help prevent work place incidents, injuries and illness.
